Learning Series 2026: Lead with Purpose

Facilitated by Hedges, the Lead with Purpose series will equip nonprofit leaders with variety of resources and tools to better serve their organization’s mission. Designed for peer-learning, Lead with Purpose offers a unique opportunity for nonprofit staff and volunteers to learn side by side over the course of four sessions.

Boards that lead with purpose are informed and equipped. Most people know nonprofits make our communities stronger, but few people know how they operate. In this session, individuals interested in expanding their nonprofit knowledge will learn the characteristics of
nonprofit organizations and how they are structured, governed, and funded.

Choosing Your Cause

Boards that lead with purpose share a passion for their cause. In this session, individuals interested in serving on a nonprofit board will explore their personal passions and learn how and where to find meaningful board service opportunities in their community.

Core Responsibilities of Nonprofit Boards

Boards that lead with purpose know their role. In this session, individuals looking to better understand the responsibilities of board service will learn the essential financial, legal, and oversight accountabilities of the nonprofit board in alignment with leading practices.

Effective Staff and Board Roles

Boards that lead with purpose work as a team. In this session, individuals seeking to maximize the strengths and effectiveness of executive and board leadership will learn the complementary yet distinct roles that staff and board members play in nonprofit organizations.

Building a Thriving Board

Boards that lead with purpose govern with intention. In this session, individuals looking to improve the composition and functionality of a nonprofit board will learn best practices in recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, and how to build a thriving Board culture.

Setting Vision and Strategy

Boards that lead with purpose plan with vision and strategy. In this session, individuals looking to understand the board’s responsibility in setting vision and planning for a sustainable future will learn the four essential pillars of nonprofit organizational health and how to apply strategic planning best practices in each.

Fundraising Essentials for Board Members

Boards that lead with purpose aren’t afraid to fundraise. In this session, individuals looking to fulfill the fundraising responsibilities of nonprofit board membership will learn successful ways to engage in the four-part fundraising process.

Creating a Simple and Effective Digital Media Strategy

Organizations that lead with purpose can tell their story. In this session, participants will learn four easy steps that can help any organization craft a digital media strategy that will support their organizational goals without dominating their resources.
