Building a Healthier Putnam County: PCCF Recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month

As we enter Mental Health Awareness Month this May, the Putnam County Community Foundation (PCCF) is taking the opportunity to reflect on progress, share local insights, and continue building momentum around mental health and substance use support in our community.

Following our 2023 Community Needs Assessment, PCCF has been working closely with local leaders, nonprofits, healthcare professionals, educators, and community members to better understand and respond to the mental health and substance use challenges facing Putnam County.

In March, PCCF awarded $180,500 in grants to help move the needle on these issues. The funding supports initiatives working to expand access to mental health services, enhance local recovery programs, and improve the systems our community relies on for mental wellness. These investments are helping to create a more connected, more capable network of care right here in Putnam County.

But this work isn’t just about funding—it’s about collaboration. This year, we are excited to convene dozens of community stakeholders to come together to co-create a path forward. These conversations are helping us build relationships, align strategies, and take real, meaningful steps toward long-term change.

This May, we’re not just raising awareness—we’re highlighting action. Throughout Mental Health Awareness Month, PCCF will be:

  • Sharing new local data and stories about mental health and substance use
  • Highlighting community organizations that are making a difference every day
  • Promoting local events and resources across social media and our website

We hope this month inspires everyone to get involved, whether it’s attending an event, supporting a local nonprofit, or simply checking in on a friend or loved one.
