2025 Putnam County Area College Fair

This week, local students gathered for the annual Putnam County Area College Fair, an event that brought dozens of colleges and universities under one roof to meet with local families. The fair was more than an opportunity to pick up brochures. It was a chance for students to explore possibilities, ask questions, and begin envisioning their paths after graduation.

Representatives from a wide range of schools including large public universities, small private colleges, and technical programs were available to answer questions about admissions, scholarships, and campus life. For many students, this was their first time speaking directly with a college recruiter, offering valuable insight into the application process.

The fair also provided resources beyond college admissions. Representatives from local Dollars for Scholars organization and the Putnam County Community Foundation shared information about scholarships. Area 30 Career Center shared information about technical training and other organizations share alternative post-secondary opportunities.

Perhaps most importantly, the fair inspired confidence. Many students left feeling more prepared and motivated, knowing there are real opportunities within reach. For first-generation college-bound students, the event was a reminder that higher education is not only possible but supported by the community.

Events like the College Fair highlight how our community comes together to invest in young people. Area 30, Putnam County Dollars for Scholars, the Putnam County Community Foundation and community partners like First National Bank take great pride in providing this resource to local families each year. Thanks to Karen Heavin, Career Specialist at Area 30, for her leadership in organizing this annual event.

By connecting students with colleges and resources, we’re helping them take the next step toward their dreams and strengthening the future of Putnam County along the way.
