Brian John & Roberta (Berdee) Lanie Memorial Scholarship Fund

Year Founded

1996

Purpose of Fund
The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to provide a source of income to provide an annual $500.00 scholarship to a graduating junior/senior of Greencastle High School, enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution.

History of Fund

This scholarship was established by the GHS Senior class of 1996 as a memorial to Brian who was killed in a car accident on icy roads, February 11, 1996. Brian was a member of the National Honor Society, co-captain and MVP of the 1996 GHS Swim Team, MVP and regional competitor in the high hurdles on the GHS track team, G Blanket award winner for lettering in football, swimming and track, a Thespian appearing in musical productions and the 1995 Regional Science Fair Grand Champion and International Science Fair exhibitor. Brian believed in treating everyone with respect and kindness and encouraged students to avoid the use of drugs and alcohol. He was not only an exemplary human being but also an athlete, student, scientist, actor, and friend. Brian’s mother, Roberta (Berdee) Lanie was also an outstanding individual. She was an educator/counselor in Greencastle Community Schools from 1976-2007. Her love and compassion for her students, friends, and colleagues was beyond reproach. She served her community and schools in a variety of capacities.
