Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars Endowment

Year Founded
1994

Purpose of Fund
The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships for Cloverdale High School graduates to further their education.

History of Fund
Bob Steele graduated from Cloverdale in 1971. He grew up in a 28 x 28 foot home with a tin roof and seven brothers and sisters. He received free lunches at school all his years. In 1994, he stopped by the superintendent’s office with a check for $600 “to repay a debt.”

When the school secretary saw the check she told Bob that the superintendent would like to speak to him. Superintendent Steve Wittenauer said that he did not want any lunch money, he wanted a scholarship. And a partnership was born.
