History of Fund

Friends of the ParkLawyer, banker, farmer and outstanding citizen, John W. Robe donated the original plat of thirty four acres of gently rolling land to be used for a playground and recreational area by the children of Greencastle. Named for his wife Ann, the park's development began in 1934. Two years later, the Washburn chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution constructed the log cabin which sits at the Bloomington Street entrance to the park. During this same period a softball diamond was added to the center of the park. More recent additions include the Bob Flanigan Band Shell, the Greencastle Aquatics Center, Emerald Palace Playground, tennis courts, and the Putnam County Skatepark.

Providing healthy recreation and promoting enjoyment of community parks is the mission of Friends of the Park. "Since 1995, the Association has completed and supported many projects, such as Emerald Palace, People Pathways, Putnam County Skatepark, Celebrate 4, and Mary Rogers Field Park,"said Lynn Wilson, President.

"We started an endowment because we know that as good stewards, we must ensure these community assets are taken good care of in the future."
