Veterans Memorial Highway Project

Year Founded

2005

Founder
Paul E. Wilson

Purpose of Fund
The primary purpose of the fund shall be to beautify the north side of Veterans Memorial Highway by creating a garden recognizing and memorializing individual veterans, provided that such programs and contributions are consistent with the exempt purposes and status of the Foundation.

History of Fund
One of the first issues Paul Wilson tackled as Street Commissioner was the danger and difficulty of mowing and weeding Veteran’s Memorial Highway. In December of 2004, Wilson decided that that he could turn the area around Veteran’s Memorial Highway into a beautiful landscape. This would not only solve the maintenance issue, but, more importantly it would be constructed to honor the veterans that the highway was named after.

The Veterans Memorial Highway Project was established to honor veterans that have served in the United States Military. Through this project, citizens can plant a tree to honor and thank a veteran for his or her sacrifices. The donated trees and surrounding landscape are maintained by the Greencastle Department of Public Works and volunteers.
