Heritage Preservation Society of Putnam County Endowment
Heritage Preservation Society
Purpose of Fund
The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to provide financial support to The Heritage Preservation Society of Putnam County, Indiana, Inc., located at P.O. Box 163, Greencastle, IN 46135. Funds will be used to support special projects of importance to historic preservation in Putnam County.
History of Fund
Initial funding for the endowment came from a grant from Indiana Landmarks. The Heritage Preservation Society of Putnam County generously agreed to match this funding with local dollars. The Putnam County Community Foundation awarded an Endowment Builder grant to HPS, which matched all of those funds on a $1 for every $2 raised for the endowment.
The HPS mission is to protect Putnam County's Historic assets through Action, Advocacy and Education. They promote and encourage interest in homes and their families, buildings, properties, history and heritage of the Putnam County area.
HPS has put on a wide range of events and projects. Some of their most significant events include Landmarks’ presentation on residential architectural styles found in Greencastle, windows workshops, a walking tour of the Eastern Enlargement area and the annual haunted cemetery tour. HPS also installed the Heritage Wall located on the west side of Vine Street in Greencastle.
