Purpose of Fund

The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to provide income to insure purchase, lease, rent, or build and maintain facilities and/or exhibits as the payout will provide.

History of Fund

The mission of the Putnam County Museum is to collect, preserve, and interpret the natural, historical, and cultural heritage of the County and its people through education, exhibits, and special programs.

Dr. James D. Thomas and
Zella Marie Taber Thomas

Dr. James D. and Mrs. Zella Marie Taber Thomas started the endowment fund for the Museum operations in 2000.

In 2004 Louis J. Fontaine, founder of the Jones Elementary School Historical Studies Fund, requested the assets of this fund be merged into the Putnam County Historical and Cultural Endowment Fund.

Museum History

Since 2003, Putnam County Museum has been bridging generations, connecting communities, and helping to preserve Putnam County’s past. Whether you are a lifelong resident of the area or a visitor to our community, you are cordially invited to visit us and learn more about Putnam County.

Please come visit! Our website can only hint at the experience awaiting you in the Museum itself. We are located at 1105 N. Jackson Street in Greencastle (in what many county residents will remember as the old Kroger building). We welcome visitors Tuesday through Friday from 1 pm to 4 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm, or by appointment. If you have a group, please call in advance (765.653.8419) so that we can arrange a special tour.
