Asbury Endowment for the Arts of
Purpose of Fund
The mission of the Endowment is to provide funding for community organizations and individuals that are actively involved in promoting the arts through one of the following: performance, education or creating awareness of the arts. Programs funded must impact the community of Putnam County or create an opportunity for individuals to be involved in the arts through education or performance. Further purposes of the Fund include, but are not limited to, the purchase of equipment, (i.e. instruments) and costs of special performances or educational programs for youth.
History of Fund
Jason Asbury graduated from South Putnam High School and DePauw University. While in Greencastle, Mr. Asbury served as organist at First Christian Church and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. He was also involved in the Putnam County Playhouse and Greencastle Chamber Orchestra. He started a cab company and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Since graduation, Jason has lived in New York City where he serves as Director of Music at Prospect Presbyterian Church in Maplewood, New Jersey and teaches full time at St. Ann's School in New York City. Mr. Asbury has performed organ recitals at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and has conducted choirs in the NYC area including St. Patrick's Cathedral, Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and Princeton University Chapel.
Jason started the Endowment in 1995 through the Putnam County Community Foundation. This grant has awarded organizations such as the Putnam County Playhouse, Impressions, Greencastle High School’s student run literary and art magazine, New Providence Church music outreach program, and more.
