Wilma and Forrest Hadley Memorial Fund

Wilma Hadley and Avery Robinson

Year Founded

Purpose of Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to a Putnam County senior who wishes to pursue a degree in education specializing in mathematics.

History of Fund
Wilma C. (Sutherlin) Hadley born was in 1917 just southwest of Roachdale, IN. She went on to graduate from Roachdale High School and then Central Normal College later known as Canterbury College where she earned an A.B. degree. In 1939-1940, Wilma joined a teacher placement firm and was placed in Hamlet, Indiana. She did not have a car at the time, so she took the bus from Danville, IN to Hamlet, IN. Wilma, along with 3 other teachers, lived with one family during this time. When the war started, Wilma moved back home. Wilma married Forrest Hadley who was a farmer and carpenter. Throughout her teaching career, Wilma taught in Hamlet, Roachdale, Danville, Hillsboro, Richland Twp., Fountain Co., Ladoga, and finally
retiring from Southmont High School. Wilma’s love of math was the inspiration for starting the fund.
