History of Fund

Edythe and Kenneth Schendel moved from West Allis, Wisconsin to Greencastle in the summer of 2001 after spending most of their lives in small towns in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Kenneth was a wise investor and an inventor. He was a foreman at Pittsburg Plate Glass Company where he developed a machine to put color card chips on the cards. Before this, it had been done by hand.  Two patents through PPG were granted from this machine. This was only one design idea of Ken’s that improved the processing of paint at PPG. Edythe was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and decorating. The pair also loved to garden and they built their own home.  Daughters Judith Funk and Rita Schendel learned many of their skills from watching and participating in the home and garden.  ~Rita Schendel, 2017
