Neil and Michele Irwin

Purpose of Fund
The primary purpose of the Fund shall be to provide unrestricted financial support to the programs and purposes of the Putnam County Community Foundation, Putnam County, Indiana.

History of Fund
Neil and Michele Irwin were excited to hear about the Lilly GIFT VI match, which provided a great opportunity for them to make a larger impact in Putnam County. “We believe the Community Foundation will use our donations to support and enhance a certain quality of life present in Putnam County that we love so much.”

Although Michele and Neil Irwin have lived in Arizona for more than forty years, the Indiana natives remain involved in the Putnam County community and Neil’s family farm near Mt. Meridian. Even though Neil is still practicing law full time in Arizona the couple makes it back to Putnam County. Michele spends a lot of time in the summer here then Neil and their three children and five grandchildren join her in July for a nice family reunion.

A 1959 graduate of Fillmore High School, Neil received a BS in Civil Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute in 1963. He served in the US Army and worked in the construction industry before entering Indiana University Law School. After graduating with honors in 1971, he and Michele moved to Phoenix where he began his law career. He is a senior Partner in the Phoenix office of the international law firm Bryan Cave LLP. Neil has served on the boards of many Phoenix-area civic and non-profit organizations and is on the Board of Visitors at the IU Maurer School of Law in Bloomington.

Michele is a 1963 graduate of Greencastle High School. She attended Indiana University, earning a BA in Fine Arts in 1967 and a Masters in Art Education in 1971. Neil and Michele were married in 1969. She taught art in public schools in Indiana and Phoenix for five years, then became involved in community organizations and served on non-profit boards and city commissions supporting the arts, education and historic preservation. Those interests lead to her 20-year career as a community relations consultant and public policy advocate.
