Greencastle Civic League Splash Park Fund

Year Founded

Greencastle Civic League

Purpose of Fund
The primary purpose of the fund shall be to provide a source of financial support to the City of Greencastle, Parks and Recreation Department to support the maintenance and repairs of the Splash Pad in Robe-Ann Park.

History of Fund
In the spring of 2011, the Greencastle Civic League voted to invest time and resources to take on a “Signature Project.”  Their vision was to do something that would significantly affect the quality of life for the residents of the greater Greencastle community. After considerable research of various projects, the Civic League members voted on the construction of a Splash Park at the Aquatics Center in Robe-Ann Park.

This site was decided upon after learning that the baby pool no longer met the minimum state standards and the cost to bring it into compliance was prohibitive.  The addition of the Splash Park to Robe-Ann Park was pleasing to both the City and to the Greencastle Civic League. This location also provides security for the facility and allows park staff to monitor and operate the Splash Park with ease.

While the park will remain free to the public, the paying pool guest will be allowed to go back and forth between the two areas. The Splash Park will include benches, tables, and shade structures for the visiting patrons to use. Splash pads have no standing water. Therefore, lifeguards are not required. This will allow the Splash Park to operate from spring to early fall and can maintain hours outside of the Aquatic Center’s regular hours.

Along with raising the funds to construct the Splash Park, the Greencastle Civic League has established an endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation to support the maintenance and repairs of the facility. The initial donation to the Greencastle Civic League Splash Park Endowment came from the general funds of the Civic League. It is the intention of the Civic League to raise a minimum of $12,000 to provide a permanent revenue stream to the City of Greencastle, Parks and Recreation Department, for the maintenance and repairs of the Splash Park.
