2015

Purpose of Fund
The First National Bank Community Endowment provides unrestricted financial support for the programs of the Community Foundation that enrich life and strengthen community in Putnam County.

History of Fund
First National Bank was chartered in 1913 in Cloverdale, and has operated continuously in Putnam County since its inception. On April 5, 1991, First National Bank expanded its operations by opening a branch in Johnson County. By the time the endowment was started in 2015, First National Bank operated branches in Cloverdale, Greencastle, Coatesville, Belleville and Plainfield. Throughout its history, First National Bank has been a community bank, which is owned by shareholders representing the communities served.

Since its inception, the Bank’s primary mission has been to serve the banking needs of the people in the counties they serve. As one of the oldest and most firmly established banks in the areas they serve, the Bank has built a reputation of conservative soundness that has served it well. Through the years, the Bank has enjoyed high quality leadership and staff which has helped the Bank maintains a major share of the local banking market. With diversification of the financial industries, First National Bank has established a unique niche in these areas due to its “real community bank” approach.

First National Bank is also very supportive of the communities in which they are located. They have participated in the Relay for Life in Putnam County for many years, and several years, they were the highest commercial fundraiser. First National encourages the employees to be involved in their communities, and have done such things as taking a team of employees to help SAWS build a ramp in Greencastle, as well as getting involved with the Lions Club and doing vision screening.
