Purpose of Fund
The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support for the annual Philanthropy Essay Contest administered during National Philanthropy Week by the Putnam County Community Foundation.

History of Fund
In 2006, as Chair of the Community Foundation’s Public Education and Special Events Committee, Darrell Wiatt and his committee were tasked with developing a new activity that would simultaneously celebrate National Philanthropy Week, promote the Community Foundation, and build future philanthropists for Putnam County.¬†The National Philanthropy Week Essay Contest was born.¬†Darrell has always taken a special interest in his brainchild, and this year, he ensured that the Essay Contest would have financial support in perpetuity.
